What it is about

You learn the ethical questions at the interface of robotics and AI: from responsibility and liability to data protection, surveillance and the world of work, up to human-robot interaction. In the end you will be able to apply ethical theories to concrete problems in robotic systems, design decision-making processes and critically analyze the long-term social consequences of technological developments.

What you will be able to do

  • Understand the basics of machine ethics
  • Apply ethical theories to case studies in robotics
  • Design and evaluate ethical decision-making processes for robotic technologies
  • Recognize bias in data and algorithms and know measures to minimise it
  • Reflect on the impacts of robotics on ecological, social and economic sustainability
  • Argue in interdisciplinary teams and justify decisions

What the module consists of

  • VorlesungDelivery of content, discussion of case studies and transfer tasks; actively solve simple situational examples

Teaching method

  • Vortrag/Präsentation (PowerPoint)for structured conveyance of theoretical content
  • Tablet-PC / Beamerfor derivation and illustration of more complex matters
  • Diskussion / Fragen während der Vorlesungto promote transfer performance and to involve students
  • weekly office hour (in-person/online)to clarify questions about dates and assignments
