AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

You will learn the fundamentals and interrelations of electromobility: from the overall mobility system, environmental aspects, to vehicle concepts, drive trains, batteries, power electronics, thermal management and charging infrastructure. In the end you can derive vehicle and drive concepts, explain component differences to conventional vehicles, and analyze and calculate batteries, electric machines, power electronics and charging concepts.

What you will be able to do

  • Justify the role and development of electromobility
  • Compare environmental and CO2 influences of different energy sources
  • Derive vehicle concepts from fleet data
  • Classify and discuss drive and packaging concepts
  • Argue differences at component level between electrified and conventional vehicles
  • Explain and calculate characteristics of electric machines and their power-electronic control
  • Describe function, structure and models of lithium-ion cells
  • Analyze relationships in battery packs and explain BMS and safety functions
  • Compare methods to increase range and assess effects of thermal vehicle management on range
  • Describe the effects of operating strategies and charging concepts on the power grid and grid feedback
