What it is about

You will learn the physical fundamentals and system aspects of radar technology as well as methods for signal processing. In the end you will be able to apply operating modes (CW, FMCW, pulsed), metrics (range, resolution, SNR) and basic signal processing procedures, and you will be able to analyze and evaluate radar systems as functional units.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the physical fundamentals of radar technology ( propagation, scattering, Doppler, RCS )
  • Differentiate operating modes and functional principles of modern radar systems (CW, FMCW, pulsed)
  • Compute and apply metrics such as range, resolution and SNR
  • Understand and implement matched filtering, pulse compression, CFAR and tracking
  • Decompose and analyze radar system architectures into transmitter, receiver, antenna and signal processing
  • Assess influences such as frequency choice, antenna properties, clutter and noise
  • Compare radar methods with respect to suitability for applications and judge systems using simulations or measurement data
  • Design concepts for modern radar approaches (e.g., SAR, MIMO) from a technical perspective
