What it is about

You will learn to develop scientific software in C++ while balancing performance and maintainability. In the end you will be able to choose appropriate data types and programming structures, apply C++ language facilities for resource management, object- and generic programming, and analyze and optimize performance.

What you will be able to do

  • select suitable built-in types and break problems into functions
  • identify known software errors in computational science and explain their causes
  • understand memory layout and apply C++ techniques for dynamic resource management
  • solve common programming tasks using object-oriented techniques
  • use generic programming to reduce code duplication
  • evaluate, model, and optimize performance
  • select and apply appropriate STL algorithms according to the C++ documentation
  • use development tools for complex scientific software projects

What the module consists of

  • VorlesungDelivery of theoretical fundamentals through lectures and presentations
  • ÜbungenSolving concrete programming tasks, sometimes in teams, and discussion of selected examples

Teaching method

  • Vorlesung/PräsentationIntroduction and explanation of concepts
  • Übungsaufgaben (einzeln/Team)Practical deepening and application of what was learned
  • LiteraturarbeitIndependent deepening of topics based on recommended sources
  • Interaktive Code-Beispiele und QuizzesImmediate practice and verification of understanding
