What it is about

In this module you will learn fundamental concepts of human cognition (perception, cognition, action) and how these abilities can be transferred to technical systems, especially in robotics. In the end you will be able to apply mathematical and algorithmic methods as well as architectures for cognitive systems to realize perception, planning and action execution in technical systems.

What you will be able to do

  • Understand essential principles of human cognition
  • Transfer cognitive abilities to technical systems
  • Apply mathematical and algorithmic methods for cognitive properties
  • Design and evaluate cognitive architectures
  • Knowledge representation and reasoning
  • Handling uncertain knowledge
  • Perception, planning and action execution in technical systems

What the module consists of

  • LectureIntroduction to basic terms and concepts; discussion of examples
  • ExerciseDeepening through study and discussion of conference papers and specialist articles; interactive introduction of relevant implementation tools and application to typical tasks

Teaching method

  • Presentation slidesIntroduction of concepts and structuring of the material
  • Discussion of examplesObservation and contextualization of the theory
  • Study of specialist articles/conference papersDeepening and critical engagement with the current state of research
  • Interactive introduction of tools and programming experimentsPractical application of the presented concepts
