What it is about

The module investigates how children and adolescents grow up in an increasingly digital world and how technologies shape their well-being, participation, and everyday experiences. You will learn key terms, theories and research methods, analyze opportunities and risks (including AI effects) and practically implement your own project-based questions.

  • Explain concepts and theories related to children, youth and digital technologies
  • Evaluate historical and current influences of digital innovations on youth life
  • Assess the impacts of AI on children and adolescents
  • Compare research methods and develop a research design
  • Reflect on ethical, data protection- and security-related issues
  • Analyze trends in digital youth culture
  • Prepare results creatively and understandably for different target groups
  • Plan and moderate 90-minute seminar sequences

What the module consists of

  • Vorlesung (wöchentlich, 2 SWS)Introduction to concepts and theories; interactive elements linking theory and practice
  • Seminar (wöchentlich, 2 SWS)Deepening, student inputs and group discussions; students lead a session
  • Workshops (two blocks of two days, total 4 days, 2 SWS)Intensive project work: exploration, prototyping, feedback and iterative finalization
