Production and Logistics (MiM)

What it is about

You will be introduced to planning problems in production and logistics as well as to methods for solving them. At the end you will be able to classify problems on strategic, tactical and operational levels, select appropriate solution approaches and apply simple quantitative models.

What you will be able to do

• Understand the relationships between planning problems in production and logistics
• Analyze planning problems on strategic, tactical and operational levels
• Select and apply solution approaches (heuristics, LP, MIP)
• Identify and evaluate economic objective conflicts (e.g., storage costs vs. setup costs)
• Critically assess theoretical models
• Transfer solution approaches to concrete industrial questions

• Vorlesung Produktion ManagementIntroduction to production planning (strategic, tactical, operational) as well as models for forecasting, material requirements planning, lot sizing and scheduling
• Vorlesung Logistics und Supply Chain ManagementLectures on transport, tours/routing/packing, warehouse processes, inventory control and supply chain design; supported by tutorials

Teaching method

• Flipped Classroom (Production Management)Students prepare topics with materials and learning videos; classroom time is used for discussions and exercises
• Recorded Lecture + Tutorials (Logistics & Supply Chain Management)Video lectures and supplementary literature for independent knowledge acquisition; tutorials for deeper understanding
