What it is about

You work in a chosen chemical specialization on an active research project and acquire modern laboratory and working techniques. In the end you will be able to independently plan, carry out, evaluate, and present and discuss the results in writing as well as orally in scientific terms.

What you will be able to do

  • Question-driven planning and execution of scientific experiments
  • Evaluation, interpretation and assessment of experimental results
  • Theoretical understanding and practical application of a broad spectrum of chemical methods
  • Independent practical work and integration into a research team
  • Documentation of laboratory work according to good scientific practice
  • Scientific presentation and discussion of results (written and oral)
  • Critical evaluation of results, hypothesis formation and derivation of control experiments

What the module consists of

  • Forschungspraktikum (Labor)Independent laboratory work for at least 4 weeks; practical execution of the research project
  • LaborjournalOngoing documentation of laboratory work according to good scientific practice
  • Schriftliche Ausarbeitung (Protokoll)Concise presentation of methods, results, interpretation and discussion (10–25 pages)
  • PräsentationConcluding talk to present and discuss the research results (approx. 10 min)
  • Vorbereitungs- und ErgebnisbesprechungenClarification of open questions, planning of follow-up experiments and substantive engagement

Teaching method

  • Projektbezogenes LaborpraktikumIndependent work on a supervisor-assigned research project to convey practical and theoretical knowledge
  • Betreuung durch wissenschaftliche MitarbeiterGuidance in planning, execution and evaluation of the experiments
  • LiteraturstudiumDeepening the substantive engagement with the research topic
  • Präsentation und DiskussionTraining in scientific presentation and critical discussion of the results
