What it is about

In this seminar you will learn computer-based methods for mass spectrometry-based Omics. You will deal with current applications such as drug discovery and repurposing as well as practical problems (nomenclature, identifier-mapping, network enrichment, data mining) and acquire basic programming skills (introduction to Python) to implement small analysis tasks.

What you will be able to do

  • Understanding different approaches to linking biochemistry and informatics
  • Applying and developing simple computational tools for research data
  • Writing scripts to query online repositories
  • Network mapping and basic data analysis
  • Insights into state-of-the-art applications (e.g., Drug discovery / repurposing)

What the module consists of

  • SeminarPresentations by individual participants on scientific articles in a mini-conference
  • TutorialIntroduction to required methods and Python
  • Praktische GruppenarbeitSmall programming tasks and development of simple software solutions in groups (3–4 people)

Teaching method

  • EinzelpräsentationenDeepening and conveying understanding of selected research articles
  • TutorialsIntroduction to computational methods and programming languages (especially Python)
  • Praktische Arbeit in KleingruppenApplication and development of simple programs; promotion of multidisciplinary communication
  • Selbststudium von FachartikelnDevelopment of the state of research and preparation of presentations
