Enzym Engineering

What it is about

In this module you will learn methods for optimizing enzymes, particularly through targeted modification of the primary structure. You will acquire knowledge of rational, computer-aided and evolutionary approaches as well as high-throughput methods and robotics, and you will be able to outline options for improving technically limited enzymes and estimate the effort involved.

What you will be able to do

• Analysis of molecular limitations of enzymes
• Indication of optimization options for technically limited enzymes
• Estimation of the effort required for enzyme improvements
• Theoretical implementation of the methods in the lab course
• Use of bioinformatic tools (e.g., docking, energy minimization)
• Evaluation of computational predictions
• Generation of improved enzyme variants for a specific target
