Experimental Methods in Ecophysiology

What it is about

In this module you will learn experimental methods of eco-physiology and biophysical plant physiology. You will practice measurement procedures for determining water status and water fluxes in the soil–plant–atmosphere continuum and you will be able to interpret measurement data and plan experiments on plant responses to drought stress.

What you will be able to do

• Explain the principles of water flow in the soil–plant–atmosphere continuum
• Critically differentiate and classify processes and relationships
• Apply methods for monitoring plant behavior under soil drying (e.g., leaf water potential, leaf gas exchange)
• Understand the principles of different methods for investigating plant–soil interactions
• Measure water fluxes from soil to plant (e.g., Sap Flow sensors)
• Design experiments or models to test specific hypotheses
• Familiarize with advanced imaging techniques for root–soil interaction under drought
• Systematically assess and explain drivers of water stress for plants
