What it is about

You learn basics of wildlife ecology and current challenges in nature conservation as well as in the management of wild animals in alpine landscapes. In the course you apply this knowledge locally in Berchtesgaden National Park, collect field data and perform simple spatial analyses to address management questions and identify conflicts with human interests.

What you will be able to do

• Understanding different conservation approaches
• Basic knowledge on the ecology of ungulates, grouse and large carnivores
• Recognizing interactions between wildlife and vegetation
• Field data collection and spatial analysis of animal movements
• Applying spatial analyses to prioritize conservation measures
• Recognizing and assessing conflicts of interest among stakeholders
• Presentation and discussion of scientific results
