Forschungspraktikum: Humangenetik

What it is about

In this research internship you will work in the laboratory for about six weeks and learn cytogenetic and molecular genetic methods. In the end you will be able to culture cells from pre- and postnatal material, perform chromosome analyses and apply common molecular genetic techniques such as PCR, Sanger sequencing as well as exome and whole-genome sequencing.

What you will be able to do

• Establishing cell cultures from postnatal and prenatal material
• Describe numerical and structural chromosomal aberrations
• Recognize and describe balanced and unbalanced translocations
• Identify associated disease patterns
• Perform PCR
• Perform Sanger sequencing
• Perform exome and whole-genome sequencing
• Explain and compare different inheritance patterns (autosomal recessive, autosomal dominant, X-chromosomal, mitochondrial)
• Create pedigrees
