AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

You will learn the practical analysis of Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) data: from raw data through quality control, mapping and SNP calling to the analysis of RNA-seq expression and simple de novo assembly. In the end you can run complete analysis pipelines on a Linux system/cluster, identify typical sources of error, and document results scientifically.

What you will be able to do

  • Different NGS data types know
  • Process raw data up to SNP- or gene expression results
  • Analyze genomic data and identify SNPs
  • Process RNA-seq data for gene expression analyses
  • Recognize biases and statistical issues in SNP and expression analyses
  • Apply analysis software under Linux and on a cluster
  • Perform basic statistics with R
  • Draft a scientific description of an analysis pipeline

What the module consists of

  • Vorlesung/ÜbungShort introductions to concepts and statistical basics; introduction to tools
  • Praktikum/Hands-onComputer and cluster exercises for practical application of tools and pipelines
  • Selbstständige DatenanalyseAnalysis of an assigned data set and creation of the final report

Teaching method

  • KurzvorträgeConveying concepts and tools as an introduction before the exercises
  • Praktische Übungen am RechnerApplying the shown methods and practising pipelines under Linux/on the cluster
  • GruppendiskussionDiscuss results with fellow students; summary by the instructor
  • Kurs-WikiDocumentation of all command lines and exercises as a guide for the pipeline
