What it is about
You will learn the diversity, physiology and biotechnological usability of fungi, with a focus on their potential for the breakdown and conversion of biomass. In the end you will be able to categorize molecular foundations, genome manipulation techniques and relevant enzyme systems and critically assess biotechnological applications and production systems.
What you will be able to do
- represent fungal metabolic capabilities
- name and understand fundamental molecular signaling pathways for metabolism adaptation
- classify involved enzyme systems in catabolism/anabolism
- understand and critically evaluate molecular techniques for genome manipulation and strain improvement
- critically question the advantages and disadvantages of presented production systems
- develop problem-solving skills and foster interest in eukaryotic microbiology
What the module consists of
- VorlesungDelivery of theoretical foundations on the biotechnology of fungi
- ÜbungDeepening of selected lecture topics through presentations, discussions and demonstrations
- ExkursionVisit to the Sunliquid demonstration plant by Clariant in Straubing (planned)
