What it is about

You learn about the diversity, functions and ecological roles of soil micro-organisms as well as the importance of mycorrhizae. In the end you will be able to describe connections between microbial activities and global biogeochemical cycles and assess the function of mycorrhizae for plants.

• Explanation of the role of soil in C and N cycles
• Assessment of adaptation strategies under changing environmental conditions
• Critical engagement with paradigms of soil microbiology
• Application of theoretically-conceptual content to research work
• Understanding of fungal-plant symbioses (mycorrhizae) and their regulation
