What it is about
You will learn how speciation can be explained and analyzed from the principles of population genetics to phylogenetic/phylogenomics methods. In the end you will be able to genetically examine populations and young species pairs, estimate phylogenetic relationships and temporal dynamics, and practically apply relevant software for these analyses.
What you will be able to do
- Understand the basic principles of population genetics
- Describe the relationships between population genetics and phylogenetics/phylogenomics
- Practically apply important analysis methods and software
- Describe the splitting of populations and the origin of multiple species
- Explain the influence of neutral and selective forces on genomes
- Perform structural analysis of SNP markers
- Use SNP data to investigate the genetic basis of speciation
- Describe and apply the advantages and disadvantages of different phylogenetic methods
- Critically evaluate results independently
