What it is about

The module provides fundamentals and practice of wildlife and nature conservation biology as well as applied genetics. You will learn how biodiversity, ecosystems and their services work, which factors influence wildlife populations, and how interdisciplinary methods and strategies for conservation and sustainable use are employed. In the end you will be able to evaluate concepts of conservation biology and applied genetic approaches and transfer them to regional as well as international management concepts.

What you will be able to do

  • Understand the importance of biodiversity of terrestrial resources and their interaction with human dimensions
  • Apply and evaluate methods and strategies of Conservation Biology and applied genetics
  • Integrate interdisciplinary knowledge into applied nature conservation management
  • Overview and assess applied natural science nature conservation concepts and sustainable resource management strategies

What the module consists of

  • Lectures "Wildlife and Conservation Biology"Conveyance of the theoretical foundations and concepts
  • Accompanying practical exercise "Case Studies in Nature Conservation"Application of what is learned in case studies and development of own research projects

Teaching method

  • PowerPoint lecturesfor structured delivery of the theoretical content
  • Group workfor active learning and in-depth work in teams
  • Practical case studies / project workto transfer theory into independent project planning, literature research and science communication
  • Media: film sequences, lecture materials, flipcharts/boardfor illustration, visualization and methodological/technical training
