What it is about

You will learn modern aspects of molecular chemistry of the s- and p-block elements: synthesis concepts, ligand design, bonding models and reactivity of low-oxidation-state main-group compounds as well as their application in catalysis and materials research. At the end you will be able to describe the bonding and electronic structure of these species and their isolobal relationships to transition metals and apply them to research examples.

90-minute examination. Allowed aids: periodic table, calculator and writing tools without electronic data memory. The exam tests recognition of problems, reproduction of selected learning content and application of knowledge to further questions; partly calculations, partly multiple-choice questions.
