What it is about

You will learn modern aspects of molecular chemistry of the s- and p-block elements: synthesis concepts, ligand design, bonding models and reactivity of low-oxidation-state main-group compounds as well as their application in catalysis and materials research. At the end you will be able to describe the bonding and electronic structure of these species and their isolobal relationships to transition metals and apply them to research examples.

What you will be able to do

  • Understanding synthesis and ligand design for highly reactive main-group compounds
  • Insight into kinetic and thermodynamic stabilization concepts
  • Application of isolobal concepts to main-group and transition-metal compounds
  • Rationalization of bonding, electronic structure and reactivity
  • Transfer of knowledge to real research examples and catalytic applications

What the module consists of
