AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

You will learn the physical and chemical fundamentals of photocatalysis as well as the common photocatalytic materials. Topics include, among others, heterogeneous and homogeneous systems, semiconductor physical concepts, plasmonics, measurement methods, reaction mechanisms, light-harvesting systems, charge transport at interfaces and chemical surface reactions as well as applications in renewable energies. By the end you will be able to analyze the underlying mechanisms, critically evaluate research results and develop proposals for experimental procedures.

What you will be able to do

  • Analyze current questions in photocatalysis and renewable energies
  • Evaluate and critically classify research results
  • Develop your own experimental proposals and procedures
  • Transfer concepts from the literature to new applications
  • Assess catalytic material conversion under light influence

What the module consists of

  • VorlesungDelivery of module material through frontal teaching (board, slides, lecture notes)
  • ÜbungenDeepening and active involvement of students through working on tasks, literature questions and group projects; presentation and discussion of results

Teaching method

  • Frontalvortrag mit Tafelarbeit und PräsentationenIntroduction to fundamental topics and transmission of basic knowledge
  • Übungsaufgaben, Hausaufgaben und GruppenprojekteActive engagement with current questions and deepening of understanding
  • Präsentationen und DiskussionenQualitative interpretation and evaluation of research content; promotion of transferability
