What it is about
You will gain in-depth knowledge of chemical processes on and with biomolecules, especially protein chemistry, modifications, interactions, biopolymers and membranes. In the end you will be able to explain chemical reaction mechanisms at the molecular level and transfer them to concrete questions on analysis and synthetic/modifying chemistry of biomolecules.
What you will be able to do
- Understanding natural and artificial chemical modifications of biomolecules
- Describing strategies for analyzing modification patterns
- Understanding and explaining methods for structure analysis (crystallization, electron microscopy)
- Presenting and evaluating synthetic chemical modifications (e.g. incorporation of non-natural amino acids, click chemistry)
- Classifying and qualitatively interpreting current research results in biological chemistry
What the module consists of
- Vorlesung (2 SWS)Conveying the theoretical foundations and progressive development of complex content
- Begleitendes Seminar (1 SWS)Deepening, discussion and development of specific techniques such as structure analysis and metabolite analysis
Teaching method
- Dozentenvortrag mit PowerPoint und TafelanschriftExplaining the basics and step-by-step structure of the material
- Fragen durch die LehrpersonConsolidating knowledge and involving the students
- Eigenständige LiteraturrechercheDeepening and expanding understanding of complex chemical concepts
