AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

You learn the principles of bionics and how biological models lead to the development of new (partly) synthetic materials for technical and medical applications. The重点 topics are surface and interfacial phenomena such as wetting, friction, lubrication, wear, biofouling as well as self-assembling/degrading materials. By the end you can design simple bio-inspired solution approaches and explain their relevance for practice and research.

What you will be able to do

  • Master the fundamentals of bionics
  • Understand surface and interfacial properties (wetting, friction, lubrication, wear, biofouling)
  • Develop a simple bio-inspired solution approach
  • Present the solution approach in a field-externalible written form
  • Assess the suitability of biological models
  • Conduct literature and patent research
  • Apply basic error analysis and significance testing

What the module consists of

  • VorlesungTheoretical content related to bio-inspired / bio-influenced material development
  • Übungen/WorkshopsMethods and tools for preparing and presenting a bio-inspired idea; creation of a two-page exposé in small groups

Teaching method

  • Vortrag mit Präsentation (PowerPoint)Derivation and conveyance of the theoretical concepts
  • KurzvideosIllustration and deepening of practical examples and concepts
  • TafelanschriebSupplementary sketches and diagrams to clarify understanding problems
  • Workshops in KleingruppenPractical application of research, evaluation and presentation methods; development of the exposé
  • Anonyme Abstimmung (Pingo) zu BeginnRevision questions to activate and check understanding
