You will gain an overview of current questions and challenges in applied homogeneous catalysis with coordination compounds and metal-free catalysts. The focus is on strategies for catalyst design and optimization (e.g., influence of metals, ligands and substituents) as well as concepts for forming catalytically active species through thermochemical, electrochemical or photoenergetic stimulation. Based on current research examples you will learn applications such as the conversion of small molecules (water, CO2, olefins) into energy carriers and chemicals. In the end you will be able to apply the basic principles of molecular catalysis and bond activation and analyze the activity of given catalysts for new reactions.
