Biopolymere und nachhaltige Polymere

What it is about

You will learn fundamentals, synthesis, properties and applications of biopolymers as well as principles of sustainable polymers. By the end you can chemcially describe bio-based, biocompatible and/or biodegradable polymers, evaluate their production and end-of-life strategies, and analyze relationships between structure, reactivity and material properties.

What you will be able to do

• Identification and chemical description of a wide range of organic bio-based/biodegradable polymers
• Understanding of polymerisation and production processes from renewable resources
• Knowledge of the production of biodegradable polymers
• Familiarity with methods for recovery, recycling, depolymerisation and decomposition of polymer materials
• Description and delineation of different application areas of these materials
• Assessment of the sustainability of polymer materials based on their chemical structure and end-of-life behavior
• Integration of sustainability principles into polymer science
• Analysis of the relationship between chemical structure, reactivity and physical properties

What the module consists of
