What it is about

You will receive an introduction to raster and transmission electron microscopy (SEM and TEM). You will learn the fundamentals of electron optics, image formation and contrast mechanisms, common analytical methods, and selected sample preparations; at the end you will be able to perform simple alignments and carry out routine analyses on beginner instruments.

What you will be able to do

• Understand fundamentals of electron optics and the operating principles of electron microscopes
• Explain interactions between electron beam and specimen
• Differentiate various image and contrast mechanisms in SEM and TEM
• Select suitable operating modes and techniques for concrete samples and analysis tasks
• Carry out basic adjustments and perform routine analyses on beginner SEM/TEM
