Moderne Röntgenphysik

What it is about

You will get to know the fundamentals of modern X-ray physics with a focus on imaging methods, both for synchrotron radiation and for modern laboratory sources (e.g. compact synchrotron MuCLS). In the end you can assess sources, interactions with matter, detectors and imaging methods and name suitable parameters for experiments (source size, coherence, energy resolution, detector choice).

What you will be able to do

• Understand interactions of X-ray radiation with matter
• Explain the formation of absorption, phase and dark-field contrast
• Identify measurement possibilities of the different imaging modalities
• Describe characteristics of conventional laboratory and synchrotron sources
• Name requirements for the source (source size, coherence, energy resolution)
• Make detector choice regarding efficiency, spatial resolution, readout speed and SNR
• Analyze and evaluate data from spectroscopy and imaging
