The performance is assessed by a final written examination (90 minutes). Allowed aids are not specified. The exam task includes excerpts (figures and texts) from a scientific article published in the examination year; you should place its experiments in the context of the lecture content, comment critically, and propose possible additional experiments. Optionally you may complete a voluntary mid-term performance in the form of a 10-minute presentation on a selected article; this presentation will not be graded separately, but may improve the module grade by up to 0.3 if it better reflects the overall performance. There is no retake date for the mid-term performance; if you repeat the module exam, a mid-term performance already given remains valid.
