What it is about

You will learn the theory and application of discs, plates and shells: from basic equations through analytical and approximate solutions to the finite element formulation. In the end you will be able to apply suitable plate theories to real problems, perform simulations with finite element programs, and critically assess numerical results as well as implement them in a structure-appropriate manner.

What you will be able to do

• Evaluate suitable disc-, plate- or shell-theory for real problems
• Model tasks with finite-element software and evaluate simulation results
• Check numerical results against analytical solutions and rough calculations for plausibility
• Interpret results and implement them in a structurally appropriate manner
• Possess and further develop background knowledge on the finite-element formulation for plates, discs and shells
