What it is about

You will learn the fundamentals of material fatigue and the design of components under cyclic loading. The focus is on understanding nominal and structural stress concepts, local concepts, as well as the basics of fracture mechanics for determining fatigue strength and remaining service life.

What you will be able to do

• Understand the basics of fatigue problems
• Apply nominal stress and structural stress concepts
• Carry out local concept and structural stress assessment
• Apply fracture mechanics verification concepts (including brittle fracture verification)
• Determine the remaining service life of components
• Analyze and evaluate steel and aluminum structures under varying loads
• Carry out and evaluate manufacturing quality and control
• Discuss current research results and literature
