What it is about

In this module you will learn the fundamental relationships of ground dynamics: the generation, propagation and assessment of vibrations in the soil as well as measures to reduce them. You will be able to distinguish wave types and dynamic material properties, apply impedance models and analyze one-dimensional as well as basic three-dimensional wave propagation phenomena.

What you will be able to do

  • Understand the fundamentals of ground dynamics
  • Repeat and apply the single-degree-of-freedom oscillator as a starting point
  • Characterize different wave types in the soil
  • Apply impedance models to predict vibrations
  • Categorize dynamic material properties
  • Investigate one-dimensional wave propagation phenomena
  • Understand the basics of three-dimensional wave propagation
  • Classify and analyze measures to reduce vibrations

What the module consists of

  • VorlesungConveying the essential aspects of ground dynamics, presentation of applications and examples
  • ÜbungApplication of lecture content to real problems and deepening through exercises

Teaching method

  • Tablet-PC und BeamerVisualization of lecture content, integration of current discussions into the lecture scripts
  • VorlesungsskripteBase materials to be worked on and supplemented during the lecture
  • Übungsaufgaben / ArbeitsblätterSupport for deepening and practicing calculations (voluntary, available online if needed)
  • Folien / TafelSupplementary presentation media as needed
