What it is about

In this module you will learn the important hydrological processes in pre-alpine catchments (e.g., snow processes, runoff formation and flood routing) and how to map these process-based with modeling tools. In the end you will be able to apply a physically based hydrological model and a 2D-hydrodynamic model, evaluate model results, and assess the impact of land use, climate and flood protection scenarios.

What you will be able to do

  • Understand dominant processes in pre-alpine catchments (snow, runoff formation, runoff concentration, Flood Routing)
  • Assess suitable modeling approaches for pre-alpine catchments
  • Apply a physically based hydrological model (WaSiM) as well as a 2D-hydrodynamic model (HYDRO_AS-2D)
  • Create and analyze model outputs
  • Evaluate the influence of pre-alpine boundary conditions on precipitation-runoff processes
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of flood protection measures with coupled modeling approaches
