What it is about

The module covers the interactions between urban structure and traffic as well as concepts and models for analyzing and controlling travel demand. You will learn classical traffic modeling methods (in particular the four‑step model), their applicability and limitations, and you will be able to apply simple transport models in the VISUM software.

What you will be able to do

• Understand interactions between land use and travel demand
• Evaluate strategies for travel demand management
• Develop concepts for sustainable travel demand management
• Analyze potentials and limits of model‑based working
• Evaluate algorithms for traffic generation, distribution, assignment and reallocation
• Apply fundamental traffic modeling algorithms in VISUM
• Evaluate applications and limits of the classic four‑step procedure
