What it is about
You will learn the mechanical and physical properties of wood, wood-based materials, and biomaterials as well as their behavior under different loads. In the end you will be able to measure or model material properties, apply multi-scale analysis approaches, and design and evaluate products made from wood/biomaterials for given loading and environmental conditions.
What you will be able to do
- Understand the mechanical and physical behavior of wood and biomaterials
- Establish the connection between structure, properties and application conditions
- Apply methods for modeling and analysis at multiple scales
- Evaluate and justify multi-scale approaches
- Select experimental techniques (destructive and non-destructive) and design experimental setups
- Design new materials/products and predict their behavior under defined loads
What the module consists of
- VorlesungConveying fundamental mechanical and physical material properties
- Übungen / EinzelaufgabenApplication of theory in problems and exercises
- Laborübungen / DemonstrationenPractical experiments and demonstrations, partly in the NDT laboratory
Teaching method
- Vorlesungen (Präsenz/Video)Explanation of fundamentals and theory
- Übungsaufgaben (einzeln)Practice and application of theory
- Laborunterricht im NDT-Labor (Ultraschall, Stresswave, Bildverarbeitung)Practical teaching of non-destructive testing methods and physical/mechanical experiments
- Script und wissenschaftliche PublikationenIn-depth information and basis for exercises
