AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

In this module you will learn methods and applications of structural optimization for engineers. You will receive fundamental knowledge on modeling, optimization algorithms (including population-based methods), multi-criteria and sensitivity analysis, as well as insights into topology and shape optimization; by the end you will be able to understand, characterize and practically apply optimization tasks.

What you will be able to do

  • Summarize background knowledge on theory, methods and application areas of structural optimization
  • Understand and evaluate principled population-based optimization algorithms
  • Model and solve optimization problems
  • Apply sensitivity analysis and multi-criteria optimization
  • Independently derive literature and transfer it to engineering tasks
  • Analyze algorithms, compare them and develop variants

What the module consists of

  • VorlesungDelivery of fundamentals and concepts through lectures and presentations
  • ÜbungDeepening through auditorium and computer exercises as well as self-study tasks

Teaching method

  • Klassische Vorlesung/PräsentationIntroduction and systematic imparting of the contents
  • Hörsaal- und ComputerübungenApplication of what has been learned and practical deepening
  • Aufgabenblätter zur Selbstarbeit (Check your knowledge)Independent practice and consolidation of the material
  • LehrsoftwareSupport and accompaniment of the module contents
