AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

You will learn mechanical material models for different materials (metals, composites, foams, biomaterials) and how to apply them. In the end you will be able to select appropriate models, understand their assumptions, homogenize and assess them for simulation purposes, and estimate the balance between model complexity and numerical efficiency.

What you will be able to do

  • List the most important material models
  • Name the mechanical characteristics of different material groups
  • Understand underlying assumptions and simplifications
  • Apply problem-specific suitable models and mathematical methods
  • Analyze mechanical models on a material basis
  • Assign and critically evaluate Fachliteratur
  • Evaluate implementations in software
  • Develop a compromise between model complexity and numerical efficiency
  • Develop mechanical models using homogenization
