AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

You develop and extend a RISC‑V processor with a focus on AI-/Machine‑Learning accelerators. In the end you can design a hardware/software co‑design solution, integrate an accelerator, adapt algorithms, verify the implementation and evaluate performance gains as well as the resulting overheads.

What you will be able to do

  • Analyze and evaluate a RISC‑V processor with ML accelerations
  • HW/SW co‑optimization for RISC‑V systems
  • Hardware adaptation of RISC‑V for neural networks and brain‑inspired algorithms
  • Design, test and evaluation of your own accelerator including performance/overhead analysis

What the module consists of

  • VorlesungShort lectures (3–4 sessions) to convey the necessary fundamentals
  • Praktikum / LaborBlock event at the end of the semester for practical implementation and completion of the tasks
  • Selbststudium / ÜbungsaufgabenPreparatory tasks in the second half of the lecture period for tool introduction and practice

Teaching method

  • LehrvortragConveying the fundamental concepts and tools
  • Selbstkoordiniertes Laborarbeiten mit TutorenunterstützungEnables practical design, implementation and testing in one’s own time within the block
  • Stufenweise LaboraufgabenConsolidation of knowledge through tasks with increasing complexity
  • Tägliche Meetings (auch online möglich)Coordination, questions and progress discussion
