AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

You will gain an overview of auditory physiology, pathologies and common audiological test procedures and acquire practical skills in clinical audiometry. In addition, you will learn concepts and procedures related to hearing implants (particularly cochlear implants), computer-assisted planning/surgery as well as telemetric analysis and postoperative adjustment. In the end you will be able to analyze measurement data (impedances, eCAPs), evaluate CT data for CI applications and create audiological reports.

What you will be able to do

  • Creation of pure-tone and speech audiograms
  • Analysis and interpretation of cochlear implant impedance measurements
  • Analysis and evaluation of electrically evoked compound action potentials (eCAPs)
  • Understanding the clinical decision processes for CI candidacy
  • Knowledge of computer-assisted procedures for operation and planning of hearing implants
  • Understanding of the postoperative audiological adjustment process for cochlear implants
  • Basic programming knowledge for processing CT images and electrophysiology

What the module consists of

  • Vorlesung (2 SWS)Introduction to the fundamentals of auditory physiology, pathologies, audiological measurement procedures and hearing implants
  • Praktikum / praktische Übungen (2 SWS)Clinical audiometry, telemetry and CT exercises as well as programming projects for data analysis

Teaching method

  • Vortrag mit Folien und interaktivem WhiteboardIntroduction to theory and derivation of relevant concepts
  • Praktische Übungen im Labor und in der HNO-AbteilungReinforcement of clinical skills and execution of audiological measurements
  • Programmierprojekte (Matlab oder Python) für CT-Analyse und Implantat-TelemetrieApplication and practice of computer-assisted image and signal processing
  • Individuelle Betreuung während des PraktikumsSupport in implementing tasks on the computer and in measurements
