AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

You will learn modern techniques of error-correcting channel coding and applying them. The module covers fundamentals such as channel models and capacity, classical and iterative codes (e.g. Turbo and LDPC codes) as well as advanced topics such as non-binary LDPC codes, coded modulation and coding for erasure channels. In the end you will be able to design, analyze and evaluate codes for typical communication applications.

What you will be able to do

  • Understanding of channel models and capacity concept
  • Mastery of binary linear block and convolutional codes as well as their decoding algorithms (MAP, ML)
  • Applying and analyzing soft-output decoding and factor-graph based methods
  • Designing and evaluating iteratively decodable codes (Turbo, LDPC) including EXIT analysis
  • Knowledge of code classes, interleaver design and application in standards
  • Understanding advanced concepts: non-binary LDPC, coded modulation, Erasure-Codes and iterative/inactivation decoding

What the module consists of

  • VorlesungDelivery of the theoretical foundations and main contents
  • ÜbungPractical examples and model solutions for applying the lecture material

Teaching method

  • Lehrvortrag/FrontalunterrichtFor systematic introduction to the topics
  • Tutorielle Übungen mit BeispielproblemenTo practice solving typical problems and apply independently
