AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

You work practically and computationally on microfluidic systems for impedance-based counting of particles and cells. In the end you will be able to apply laboratory procedures (cell culture, counting), COMSOL simulations for fluidics and electromagnetics, the design and fabrication of PDMS- or CNC-milled microchannels, as well as image analysis and statistical experimental design.

What you will be able to do

  • perform routine Biolab procedures (cell culture, cell analysis, liquid handling, balance, pH meter)
  • numerical simulations for virtual prototyping with COMSOL (geometry, meshing, material parameters)
  • design microfluidic flow cells according to simulation results
  • analyze microscope images of cells/particles with ImageJ- or MATLAB scripts
  • conduct electrical impedance measurements on particles and cells in microfluidic flow cells
  • plan experiments statistically (e.g. Poisson statistics, sample size planning)
