AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

You will learn methods of imaging with electromagnetic waves, in particular the formulation and solution of inverse problems as well as regularization techniques. In the end you will be able to connect field theory and optimization methods, design measurement systems for electromagnetic imaging, and process data with direct and inverse procedures.

What you will be able to do

  • Formulate inverse problems and apply regularization methods
  • Explain and use the fundamentals of field theory (Maxwell equations, field theorems)
  • Use optimization methods (including Wirtinger calculus) to solve inverse problems
  • Conceive and evaluate measurement systems for electromagnetic imaging
  • Practically apply direct and inverse imaging methods
  • Combine and apply methods for magnitude and phase reconstruction

What the module consists of

  • LecturePresentation of the subject contents and concepts
  • ExercisesInteractive solving of problems for deepening
  • Demonstations/Code examplesMinimalistic implementations to motivate own programming
  • Experimental measurement setupsDemonstration of practical measurement systems and imaging setups

Teaching method

  • Frontal teachingConveyance of theoretical content
  • Practice solvingDeepening through working on problems
  • Minimalistic implementationsEncouragement for own implementation of the methods
