What it is about
You learn the fundamentals of electromagnetic field theory and its application to waves and waveguides as well as radiating fields and antennas. In the end you will be able to use Maxwell's equations, wave equations and important theorems, describe guided and free waves, and apply basic numerical procedures for field calculation and assess antennas.
What you will be able to do
- Analysis and evaluation of the fundamental equations and important theorems of electrodynamics
- Assessment and evaluation of line conductors (TEM, dispersion, cut-off frequency, single-mode region)
- Description of more complex lines by modes and assessment of mode-coupling problems
- Evaluation of free-space propagation, near and far fields and their mathematical description
- Development and evaluation of antennas (reciprocity, effective aperture, gain)
- Verification and assessment of numerical methods for electrodynamic field calculation
