What it is about

You work practically on image and video compression: you learn theoretical basics and implement them into functional encoders/decoders. In the end you can implement your own image and video codecs and optimize and evaluate them with regard to compression efficiency, computational effort and memory requirements.

What you will be able to do

  • Implementation of a fully functional image and video compression procedure
  • Optimization of codecs with regard to coding efficiency, computational complexity and memory requirements
  • Evaluation and comparison of video codecs and their trade-offs

What the module consists of

  • Praktikum / Laborweekly laboratory sessions for implementing and deepening the concepts under supervision
  • Hausaufgabenpreparation for the lab sessions through tasks that revisit relevant concepts
  • Projektarbeit (Gruppenarbeit, 2 Personen)development and optimization of a own codec module from week 9
  • Präsentationfinal presentation of the implemented codecs and the optimization results
