What it is about

The course, using the human auditory system as an example, provides fundamental physiological, psychoacoustic, and modeling knowledge. You will learn to understand perceptual mechanisms and models and apply them to technical applications in the audio field as well as to hearing aids (hearing aids, cochlear implants).

What you will be able to do

  • Understand physiology of the auditory system
  • Apply models of peripheral and central auditory processing
  • Explain psychoacoustic phenomena (masking, loudness, difference thresholds)
  • Analyze binaural hearing and sound direction
  • Assess causes and consequences of hearing loss
  • Use models for speech intelligibility
  • Derive audio-technical and clinical applications (mp3, hearables, hearing devices, CI)
  • Plan, conduct and statistically analyze auditory experiments
