AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

You will learn modern codes and algorithms for error detection and correction in memory and networking environments. In the end you will be able to select, adapt, evaluate and implement suitable coding schemes for applications such as distributed data storage, flash memory and network coding.

What you will be able to do

  • name current application areas of coding theory
  • select and parameterize a suitable coding scheme for given applications
  • implement and evaluate coding schemes in software
  • assess error-correcting capability and limits of well-known codes
  • understand new, non-lecture-related coding schemes based on literature search

What the module consists of

  • VorlesungDelivery of theoretical content with slides and board, discussion and examples
  • PraktikumAccompanying MATLAB internship for implementing the lecture content in pairs

Teaching method

  • VorlesungTheory transfer, examples and discussion; students are encouraged to participate and ask interim questions
  • PraktikumPractical implementation in MATLAB based on instructions; independent programming tasks in pairs with supervision
