What it is about

You learn the fundamentals and current concepts of nano- and microrobotics with a focus on biomedical applications. In the end you understand physical principles in the submillimeter range, materials and fabrication methods, as well as actuation and control mechanisms, and you can critically assess design decisions for small robotic systems and their integration into biological environments.

What you will be able to do

  • Understand the physical operating principles of small robots
  • Apply material and fabrication approaches to design problems
  • Analyze various energy sources and their limitations
  • Evaluate criteria for integration with cells and tissues
  • Critically analyze Fachliteratur in nano-/microrobotics
  • Design concepts for nano-/microrobotics devices

What the module consists of

  • Lectures (2 SWS)Conveying the fundamental concepts and theory of nano-/microrobotics
  • Exercises (2 SWS)Application of concepts in exercises, discussions and preparation for examinations; project presentations

Teaching method

  • LectureIntroduction to the basics and key concepts
  • In-Class ExercisesDeepening the content through problem solving in small groups and training for the written examination
  • Project/PresentationAnalysis and presentation of a scientific publication to practice scientific evaluation and communication
