What it is about

You deal with fundamentals and modern developments of cavity optomechanics in the quantum regime. In the end you will be able to describe optomechanical systems and their quantum mechanical effects, understand optomechanical coupling and ground-state cooling, and assess applications of nanomechanical systems in the quantum regime.

What you will be able to do

  • understand parametric coupling of mechanical resonators and optical cavities
  • describe dynamic back-action due to radiation pressure
  • explain optomechanical ground-state cooling
  • evaluate applications of quantum optomechanics
  • assess knowledge about nanomechanical systems and their use

What the module consists of

  • VorlesungConveying the theoretical foundations of cavity optomechanics
  • ÜbungDeepening the lecture content through exercises and working on current Fachpublikationen

Teaching method

  • Tafel/PräsentationExplanation of content and visualization of central concepts
  • Diskussionen/RückfragenClarification of understanding questions and deepening
