AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

You learn methods for planning communication networks: from traffic and demand modeling through topology and dimensioning decisions to resilience, multilayer, and multi-period planning. In the end you can model planning problems, apply suitable solution approaches, and perform practical analyses with a network planning tool.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain methods of network planning
  • Create traffic and demand models
  • Plan topologies and locations
  • Perform network dimensioning for circuit- and packet-switched networks
  • Apply resilience and redundancy concepts
  • Consider multilayer and multi-period planning
  • Implement and analyze plans practically with a tool

What the module consists of

  • LectureConveying the theoretical fundamentals and methods
  • ExercisesQuestion-based tasks and laboratory experiments for deepening
  • Computer-based laboratory experimentsPractical application of network planning tools

Teaching method
