Analysis, Modeling and Simulation of Communication Networks

EI7450Examination Performance6 ECTSEnglishsummer semesterDepartment Computer Engineering
AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

You will learn methods for the analysis, modelling and simulation of communication networks. This includes traffic, channel and mobility models, queuing and graph models as well as various simulation methods and tools. In the end you will be able to analytically and simulatively assess networks and develop your own simulation tools as well as perform result evaluations.

What you will be able to do

  • Apply network and traffic models
  • Perform queuing and network analyses
  • Use different simulation methods (discrete, Monte Carlo, rate-based)
  • Design and implement simulation tools
  • Statistically analyze and visualize simulation results
  • Knowledge of mobility, channel and topology models

What the module consists of

  • VorlesungConveying the theoretical foundations of modelling and simulation
  • Übungen/TutorialsDeepening through exercises and step-by-step design of a simulation tool
  • Programmieraufgaben/ProjektePractical implementation and evaluation of modelling and simulation methods

Teaching method

  • Lehrvortrag (teacher-centered)Introduction and explanation of concepts
  • Übungen und Programmieraufgaben (student-centered)Application, deepening and gradual development of a simulation tool
  • Praxisprojekte und HausaufgabenPractical implementation and analysis of simulations
