Communication Network Reliability

EI7644Examination Performance5 ECTSEnglishsummer semesterDepartment Computer Engineering
AI-edited module sheet. Based on the TUMonline module description, edited for readability.Original in TUMonline

What it is about

You will get an introduction to reliability of communication networks, learn central concepts, metrics and mathematical models for failures and repairs. You will practice protection and restoration procedures (span- and path-restoration), planning approaches for self-organized and real-time restoration, as well as techniques for mesh-restorable networks including p-Cycles. In the end you will be able to model and assess availability and reliability, and classify different protection and restoration strategies.

What you will be able to do

  • Understanding of fundamental concepts and parameters of network fault tolerance
  • Modeling of failure and repair processes
  • Analysis and evaluation of availability and reliability metrics
  • Knowledge of protection and restoration procedures (span/path, mesh, p-Cycles)
  • Assessment of operational aspects of real-time restoration and self-planning
  • Understanding restoration in IP networks and dual-failure restorability

What the module consists of
